SHOULDER AND ELBOW SURGERY
Specialization in shoulder and elbow surgery has become more complex in recent decades, due to the advancement of surgeries in the specialty that have a greater learning curve, especially arthroscopy and arthroplasty (prosthetics).
An orthopedic physician specializing in shoulder and elbow has a background in orthopedics and traumatology, a three-year residency, and an additional one-year training in shoulder and elbow surgery at an accredited institution.
After this training, the doctor may apply for admission to the Brazilian Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SBCOC) , being considered a specialist in shoulder and elbow if approved.
Doctors specializing in shoulder and elbow are also trained in trauma surgeries, that is, in the treatment of fractures of the shoulder and elbow and in the sequelae or complications of these fractures, which include fractures of the humerus, clavicle, scapula, various fractures and elbow dislocations.
